Attendence for NPCC Courses

Attn: All cadets

As mentioned before school closed and also in the letters that were issued to all of you, if you are unable to attend any of the NPCC HQ courses during the June holidays, you have to inform the Teacher Officers BEFORE the course.

This should also be the case for any courses during the school term.

The reasons for this arrangement is because:

1. NPCC HQ provides lunch for full day courses and a namelist is submitted to HQ 2 weeks before the course starts. If you did not inform any of the Teacher Officers, you are assumed to be able to attend and your name is included in the name list and lunch is booked for you. When you do not attend, these lunch boxes are really, a waste of food and NPCC HQ's money.

2. In addition, our unit get penalised in the UOPA (the assessment that is done to determine if a unit is Bronze, Silver or Gold) for attendence less than 80% stated in the submitted namelist.

3. Booking of different sizes of buses to the course venues depends on the number of participants and the money is paid from the unit fund. When a big bus meant for 30 ppl is booked and only 10 ppl turns up, we are wasting our own unit fund which could have been used for organising enrichment activities for all of you.

4. Some of the courses are only organised once a year. Once you missed it, you can only take it one year later.

5. Some of the courses get you the Proficency Badges that are pre-requsities for certain ranks. Eg. Road Safety Badge is compulsory for a cadet to be promoted to a LCP. Without this badge, even if you pass your drill promotion test, you will be a probationary LCP as you have not fulfilled the NPCC HQ's promotion criteria.

In summary, it is peferctly understandable if you are sick or have other valid reasons that you cannot attend the course. However, we will really appreciate if you inform the Teacher Officers personally before a course commences if you are unable to attend.

The following cadets were absent from the June courses without any valid reasons. Please see me personally to explain why you did not turn up for the courses by next Tuesday (24/6/08). For Road Safety course, you can only take it next year. For SANA course, there are courses in Sept and Dec. However, I will only make arrangements for you to attend the courses if your reasons for absence is valid.
